5 Mistakes to Avoid If You Want to Master Execution

If you want to grow and scale your business quickly, here's what to avoid.

The best strategy in the world is worthless unless you can execute it well. And not just okay, but really well.

Unfortunately, many, if not most, companies fail in this area. They don’t have the systems, discipline, or mindset to implement their strategy effectively.

For some it’s the lack of key operational systems. For others is that lack of discipline and focus. For others, they haven’t set the right meeting rhythms and routines.

Regardless, they fall short and get lackluster business results.

Having worked with dozens of companies on strategy development and strategy execution, I find a few common mistakes.

Generally, these are very fixable, if you know what to look for.

For some companies it’s the lack of a clear strategy. They just haven’t made the right decisions to focus their efforts on winning moves that will position themselves well in the market.

For others, it’s a lack of clear roles and responsibilities. They have great people, but they are stepping on each other’s toes or dropping balls.

And there are many others.

Getting these right isn’t hard. But it takes some focus and some effort.

I find that those companies that systematically look for issues, prioritize and resource them well, and have the discipline of following through on their commitments will do amazingly well in the long run.

I’m a strategist and I love creating innovative go-to-market strategies. But without execution, it’s pointless.

I’d rather have a team develop a mediocre strategy, but then execute it flawlessly, then a team with a perfect strategy who fumbles the implementation.

Are you executing with precision? Where are your flaws? What do you need to do better to win?
